The venue features over 90,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and fourteen hands-on galleries, giving visitors the chance to learn about science, nature and the world. Many of the permanent exhibits give visitors a chance to learn about business, science, technology, nature and energy. The PowerPlay exhibit is a one-of-a-kind exhibit that allows kids to learn about the value of exercise and movement. Kidtropolis is a miniature metropolis where children can start businesses, elect their peers for city government positions and try different types of job tasks. The Eco Station helps kids learn about the impact of the environment in their community, visit a native plant garden, explore a woodland area, and visit a research pavilion. This exhibit is powered almost entirely by solar energy.
Other Information About the Children’s Museum of Houston
Families can enjoy free family nights offered every Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and participate in several other special events throughout the year. It has been named the “Ultimate Kid-Friendly Attraction” in a Houston Chronicle readers poll, and earned the number one spot in Child magazine for the nation’s best children’s museums.
The museum features a full-service Kid’s Café serving hot dogs, corn dogs, chicken fingers, sandwiches, cookies and other snacks. Educational programs include overnight stays at the museum, after-school adventures, science workshops and training programs for educators.
The Children’s Museum of Houston is open on Mondays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
